How do I fix a keyboard that won’t type in Windows 10?

Starting in Windows 7, Microsoft added several features to their Operating System under the title “Ease of Access”. These tools are intended to assist those with physical disabilities that can be helped by settings changes on a computer for viewing and editing. By default, these settings are available through shortcut keys and can sometimes be accidentally turned on.

SYMPTOMS
If you experience an inability to type on your keys on your keyboard that impacts the letter keys (A,B,C, etc.) but you still can use your “F” Keys (F1, F2, etc.) then your Filter Keys may have been turned on. To resolve this do the following (Screenshots below are for Windows 10):

  1. Go to the “start” icon in the lower left corner of your screen
  2. Click on the “settings” gear in the left hand selection bar
  3. On the Windows Settings screen type in “access” and select “Ease of Access Keyboard Settings”
  4. Make sure and move the slider bar to “off” on the following:
    1. Sticky Keys
    2. Toggle Keys
    3. Filter Keys

This should resolve any issues you may have with a keyboard not responding.
